My First 10K Ryan on Oct 22, 2009 10:30am

For Father's Day this year, Carrie bought me the Nike+ system for iPod. For those not in the know, its a small device that fits inside of a Nike shoe that tracks your running pace and distance during your workouts. (For those not in the know with me, I've recently started running...ouch...).

I'm not sure whether I'm doing this for my health or to play with this little device, but I'd like to think either way, its good for me in the end. So far I've run nearly 90 miles and this weekend I will be participating in my first 10K (approximately 6.2 miles). The farthest I've ever run at one time in my entire life was just over five miles and that was back in early Septemmber! Needless to say, I'm for a good amount of pain this weekend.

The cool think about this run is that its for the Nike+ Human Race (google it, I'm to lazy to link to it), which is basically a world-wide event. You run it where you live. If you happen to live in a "sponsored" location, you can choose to participate in a more "official" venue, but if not, you can run it right where you live. (Of course to officially take part, you have to have the Nike+ device). Once you run your race, you just upload your data to Nike's website and they handle the rest.

I'm both nervous and looking forward to it at the same time. I've been fighting a wicked head cold all week and my body is very sore from all the running I've been doing, but I'm going to push through on Saturday, so please send good thoughts and I'll try to get an update out once I'm done.

In other news, I owe you all a TON of pictures. McKenna is almost 11 months old now, and Olivia is nearly 5 years old and growing like a weed. She's in ballet, and really enjoys going to pre-school. The dentist on the other hand is apparently the devil...

Sorry to have neglected this site for so long, things have been extremely busy at work and I've got a ton of pet projects I've been working on and would like to get out the door. (I'd still like to launch my debate site with my brother, but I'm already not keeping up with all the other sites I run, so another one would just get neglected as well...but it still might happen, just have to find an extra 20 bucks per month to pay for hosting.

Anyway, onto Saturday for my first big "race" if you can call it that...wish me luck!

For those interested, I finished in 59 minutes and 42 seconds...18 seconds quicker than my goal.
