Thank GOD That is Over

I believe the last 36 hours or so have been the *MOST* trying hours that my wife and I have ever had to endure. We\'ve spent those hours back at St. Mary\'s Pediatrics Intensive Care Unit with Olivia.
In short, it appears that she doesn\'t have a very efficient \"suckle\" and for nearly three days, our beautiful baby girl was getting barely enough nourishment to get by. Talk about parents feeling like awful parents! How could we *NOT* know this?!?
Well, it appears that we have a very, *VERY*, tolerant and resiliant little baby on our hands. She never fussed or showed any signs of dehydration until Sunday afternoon. She refused the bottle and hadn\'t had a wet diapers for quite some time. We were concerned, but she had no fever, no fussiness, or anything else to point to her being not well. Until, we were unable to rouse her around 4:30 or 5pm.
Basically, we hauled our butts through red lights, and over 80mph getting her to the ER. They admitted her in the the pediatrics ward and Carrie and I were absolutely *STUNNED* to find out she was dehydrated. Needless to say admitted her and we were were frantic. If it weren\'t for our very good friends, Ellen, Trish, and Ruth, we\'d probably have completely lost our minds. We owe them all the world!
We are finally home and little Liv is doing great. She has had many wet diapers, and is guzzlin\' down lots of milk. We\'ve decided to still use breast milk but serve it up in a bottle instead of right at the source, if you will. That way we can monitor up front and see that she is getting what she needs.
Needless to say, Carrie is getting some much needed rest, and I am taking the downtime after my nap to update you all on our little girl.
We are so thankful to the nursing staff and our Pediatrition and to all of our friends. Most of all, we are thankful for each other and for our beautiful, brave, and very strong little Olivia.

Thank God that Olivia is doing fine now. Glad to hear you both made it thru the ordeal as well. Welcome to the trying times of parenthood. I myself just came out of the ER with Faith. She did a header off the coffee table while I was getting lunch out of the oven. The hospital trips never stop. Your in our thoughts and prayers.

I should really stop reading your blogs, I\'m crying again! Too many hormones! Congrats to you both for making it through your first scary ordeal. Unfortunatley, there will be more! Although those newborn babies appear to be so tiny and fragile, they are fooling us - because they are tough as nails. Just look at how they come into this world! Thats not a pleasant ride! Yet they make it through that, and so much more. I\'m glad everything is okay and that you have her back at home. I\'ll be thinking of you all. Erica :)

I\'m so sorry to hear of all of this trouble. My heart is with you Carrie and you too Ryan. As if being a new parent isn\'t already the most challenging event in your life, you don\'t need any other obstacles.
Hang in there! Pumping can be a challenge, but it is worth it for Olivia to do it as long as you can muster. Take Care, we are all thinking of you!!

I am very happy for you all of you after reading about the ordeal you went through.
Keep that laptop OFF your lap and get some rest, Ryan!
