Please Turn Off all Cell Phones, Pagers...

Okay, so yesterday Carrie and I go to an afternoon showing of Shrek 2. Overall, the movie was good. About what you\'d expect for an animated flick. It had just enough \"fart-humor\" to make the kids laugh, and enough \"low-lying\" adult humor to make us laugh.
What it had plenty of, and stop me if I am way off base here, was very, very, very *YOUNG* children.
I\'ve been going to movies my entire life, as most of us have, but of all places I\'ve been to the movies, Madison is the first city I\'ve seen people bring babies in car seats and blankets with bottles, etc.
Let me just take a moment right here to point out something that I thought should be blatantly obvious. If your child isn\'t old enough to form a coherent sentence or can barely eat solid food, they are probably a *tad* to young to take to a movie. What\'s the point? Do you really think they are understanding what they are seeing? Some of these kids were under a year old, easily. Even so, do you think and 18-24 month old is going to comprehend the movie. God forbid you play with them, read to them, color with them etc. For the love of God, if your desperate sit \'em down in front of some Blues Clues or something, but don\'t take them to the theater! At least with Blue they\'re learning something while being occupied.
If the point is to annoy those around you, then bravo, its a good plan. If the point is to actually enjoy a movie, well then yer screwed there, along with anyone else in the theater since you have to get up 15 times with a screaming baby, who probably should be asleep anyway.
Don\'t get me wrong, I *adore* kids. We\'re expecting a new baby in November ourselves. Somehow, I don\'t think that kid is going to join us at the theater anytime before the age of 3, and for me that is pushing it.
You may say, that\'s what you get for going to a children\'s movie during a matinee. I tried to reason with myself that very point. Ya know what? I may even have accepted that if it didn\'t happen all the damn time!
We\'ve been to several more \"grown-up\" movies and were astonished at the number of \"under-age\" kids there with their parents. Naturally talking, bouncing up and down, crying, etc.
At least if its someone\'s cell phone and they\'re being disrespectful you can tell the shut the hell up, (I\'ve done it).
I hate to say that its Madison, but this doesn\'t happen in other cities, at least not the ones I\'ve been to. All I ask is a little discretion and respect...am I asking too much?
