It\'s not everyday when you find out your a catalyst for big changes in someone else\'s life. In general, you\'d like to find yourself in that situation when its dealing only with good.

However, as luck would have it, I am sure I have become \"Evil Incarnate\" in some unlucky web developer\'s life. Yes, without me, this person may still have a job, but due to a can of worms opened by yours truly, someone is on the job hunt as of last night.

Thankfully this person is nobody that I know personally or work with on a daily basis, but I still feel extremely guilty for what went down. Granted this person brought it upon himself and his superior\'s assured me that there was plenty of build up and my little event just happened to break the proverbial camel\'s back.

Background:We need to move a couple of client sites to a more secure machine. In order to prepare for that process I had to request the latest and greatest code of a couple of third parties. One of those parties is quite able to oblige, the other one however replied in a rather unprofessional manner and stated in a round-about way that he didn\'t have the time to spend on rounding it up. Keep in mind, we aren\'t his customer, somebody else is, and we are acting on their technical behalf.

One thing led to another and I was pulled into a meeting yesterday with our client so I could explain what we were trying to do and that we needed a little help from them to push their third party web developer to find the latest and greatest code. In the end, a copy of the affore mentioned reply was requested by our client. That is where I leave this picture until this morning. I can only imagine the sh*tstorm that occurred within this third party.

Needless to say, I find out this morning that the person in question has been let go, apparently not solely due to yesterday\'s events, but none-the-less, I am the straw that broke the camel\'s back. Now, because of me, some web developer, (sub-par or not), is jobless. Sure he brought alot of it on himself, but I can\'t help but feel somewhat responsible for the whole thing. I\'ve been reassured several times by my boss, his boss, our client, etc that I shouldn\'t feel that way, but still...I feel like a \"nark\" or something...

In the end, I should be happy. This little event saved our client a few thousand bucks since we don\'t have to go and audit code, etc. I just feel like a bit of an ass...

Whose to say you haven\'t?? ;-)

Seriously though Andy, like you said yesterday, if you haven\'t been fired yet all on your own, there\'s nothing any of us could do to get you fired...

Andy, you\'re fired.

Ryan, it\'s your fault.
