I Left My Pride On the Mountainside Ryan on Mar 04, 2007 11:36am

I'm 32 years old and for some reason, I thought it'd be a good idea to strap a piece of thing fiberglass to my feet and slide down a mountain...turns out...I'm hooked.

Yesterday I spent some time a Tyrol Basin in Mt. Horeb teaching myself the fine art of snowboarding. Each time I fell...(and I fell alot) I knew I'd be feeling a twinge of pain in the morning. Overall, I'm not in too bad of shape, especially when one considers I'd never done that before but I must say...I am reminded that I'm not as young as I used to be.

I took me about 20 minutes to get up enough nerve to start down the hill...(and another 40 to get up numerous times and get to the bottom), but once down...I was hooked.

I managed to take a couple of forward falls right on my gut which took by breath away and refused to give it back for what seemed like ages. However I managed to brush myself off each time and finish. By my third time down as I was figuring things out thought it would be a number of runs before I'd reach the bottom without getting a snow enema.

While I'm sure I made quite a spectacle of myself..(and even prompted some of the Tyrol staff to heckle me...all in good fun...) I'll be back at again as soon as I can. (Considering it wasn't at all cheap, that may be a while, possible next season). On a side note, I've got a $100 dollar gift certificate to CompUSA that I'd be willing to trade in towards someones uses snowboard. Somewhere up on that mountain is a big old pile of my pride and I have to go back and get it.
