I *LOVE* Bein\' A Geek Ryan on Apr 12, 2005 10:33pm
Today I had a road trip to Sheboygan for a client meeting. I wasn\'t all that excited about going seeing as how I didn\'t get home until close to 8PM, but overall it was a good trip and a good meeting.

One of my customers in particular was very happy to meet me. Apparently I am her hero, and all I do is my job. Guess that makes her my official best customer seein\' as how she has been so pleasant, (and patient) over the past two years.

However, that is not what I wanted to talk about...as you may know from earlier entries, I am the proud owner of a Garmin eTrex Legend GPS. I cant\' put the thing down. Even more interesting however was a recent issue of Linux Journal detailing some open source software called GPS Drive. I cannot sing this piece of software\'s praises loud enough. By FAR it is the best piece open source software I\'ve ever had experience with.

Mind you, only a GEEK would get a kick out of seeing his location on a map while driving to a destination that he is fully aware of how to get to, but I still found myself completely amazed at is simplicity. If you own a GPS and run Linux, you owe it to yourself to take it for a test drive...literally.

If it weren\'t for the fact that I am freezing my ASS off right now, I\'d go into more depth, complete with screenshots, etc...but for now you\'ll have to wait until I get the time to do so, and the temperature of our home-office is more comfortable.

My hat is off to the developer of GPS Drive, and I may even donate to your cause...great software!

Eric joins you in the joy of seeing the your path on that Garmin screen. While in Korea I got to see his flight paths for the day. Enjoy and don\'t drive Carrie crazy with that thing;)

It\'s inevitable...I\'ll use it, and it may not drive her crazy, but I will most certainly get called a geek...
