Today I get to something that is well outside my comfort zone...but necessary. I get to go do some digging at a client site to figure out their current environment, etc. One reason I left my old world of system support was to interact less with the end-user. It was really starting to drive me nuts. But alas, I realize that sometimes these things need to be done.

I have a few clients that I really don\'t mind, and rather enjoy interacting with. These are \"new\" clients so there\'s going to be a \"break-in\" period before I find my comfort zone. However, in reading some of the \"contract\" stuff, I am quickly reminded why I am so glad I am not part of the big-company world anymore:

While performing services for XXXXXXX, persons grant to XXXXXXXX exclusive rights to patents, copyrights, inventions or other intellectual property they originate or develop.

Thats just the one that stuck out in my mind. Granted most every company has something like this in their policies but wording it in such a way that it brings into question what exactly they have \"rights\" to just doesn\'t seem right to me. There are plenty of other examples in this document that have a strong corporate feel, but I\'m not going to list them all, who has that kind of time?

I guess what I am saying is, I haven\'t missed the \"corporate\" feel for the few years that I\'ve been away from it, and I can say that I hope to not return to that environment for any length of time in the near future. This is as close as I want to get...
